Lakefront Homes Offer Challenges Met By Traverse City Architect

View these lake front homes built to feature property attributes while overcoming the often unique challenges lake side properties present.

This home presented many challenges to the architectural design team of John Kerridge, AIA and Matthew Wollam, Assoc. AIA. The home is located in a beautiful Leelanau County setting on Lake Michigan. This lakefront dune setting presented numerous restrictions in the home design and building placement, including critical dune restrictions and a time sensitive Michigan DEQ permit, which stipulated strict size and placement restrictions.

Following an expedited, yet careful site analysis and site modeling, including an assessment and review of restrictions from the United States Department of Fish and Wildlife, the end design met all of the regulatory requirements and timeframes. The end design result is a timeless lake front home in the tradition of the Leelanau county Lake Michigan Summer home. The home features, natural cedar, stone, covered porches, spectacular views from rooms and a cozy screen porch to capture the essence of Northern Michigan lakefront living.
